Community Works, in partnership with others, is holding a series of short workshops designed to introduce and orientate participants around key equalities considerations that relate to the areas of disability, faith, BME and LGBT. The following LGBT Awareness Workshop Session will be delivered in partnership with LGBT Switchboard:

This 3.5 hour session will provide a safe space for people to explore and discuss the issues relating to creating safe, inclusive and welcoming environments for LGBT people. It will start with an overview of the responsibilities as relating to LGBT people outlined within the Equality Act and from there look at terminology and language, what discrimination might look like and its impact as well as a chance to explore how to challenge LGBT discrimination in an effective way.
By the end of the workshop session members will be able to:
* Understand the main tenants of the Equalities Act as applies to LGBT people
* Be familiar with the range of terminology that applies to sexual orientation and gender identity
* Understand and identify some of the ways in which prejudice and discrimination can be directed towards people of differing sexual orientations or gender identities
* Understand how homophobia, biphobia and transphobia impacts on LGBT people
* Have a practical understanding how to challenge LGBT discrimination in an effective way
