Supervising to Safeguard

FREE Football inclusion sessions for homeless people

For those experiencing or working with homeless people.

Inspired by the recent Homeless World Cup held in Amsterdam and won by Mexico.

Albion in the Community is providing FREE football sessions EVERY Friday at Hove Lawns, meeting at the Peace statue at 11:00am for those homeless people that would like to join ‘the movement’! This is followed for those that wish by access to First Base for refreshments and computer access.

No requirement to be fit, or any previous experience just a desire to get together with others. A fully inclusive fun session!!

Free training for LTBTQ groups

LGBT HIP is holding a free session for volunteers from LGBTQ groups, who would like to provide LGBTQ awareness training in Brighton and Hove. The course will cover how to deliver effective training, how to engage an audience and overcoming barriers to learning.

By the end of the course, volunteers will have an understanding of how to plan, deliver and evaluate a training session and receive a certificate.

Whether you have delivered training before, or you do not have any previous experience, this will be a fun and participatory course, which will give volunteers skills and confidence in communicating with an audience.

Brighton Marathon: a chance to raise money for your group

Community Works has negotiated a special deal with the Brighton Marathon for 2016. It means that even though entries are now closed, runners can still take part if they wish to collect sponsorship for a local community or voluntary organisation. If your group wants to take up this offer, you need to:

  • find someone willing to run on your behalf. The 2016 Brighton Marathon weekend is April 15th-17th
  • contact Community Works to book your runner a place in the Marathon for the discount price of £70 (max. 2 places per organisation)
  • help your runner to gather sponsorship, via JustGiving

In 2015, the average amount of money raised by Brighton Marathon runners was £630

 

Free Turn2Us training for charities working with people in financial need

Places are available on a three hour workshop, teaching front line workers how to use the Turn2us Benefits Calculator, Grants Search tool and other online information to help people in financial need access benefits, grants and other forms of financial help.

28 October, Brighton, 9.30am to 12.30pm.

The Gannett Foundation gives grants to registered charities in Brighton & Hove, for creative projects that bring lasting benefit to local neighbourhoods and communities.

Safety Net training

Safety Net have several training courses coming up:

There are two spaces available on the Protective Behaviours training running next week on Monday 12th & Tuesday 13th October. Protective Behaviours is a personal safety and life skill process that teaches the ability to recognise and deal with situations in which we don’t feel safe. It can be used as both an abuse prevention strategy and to address situations such as feeling worried or bullied, as well as promoting good citizenship. The course runs from 10:00am to 4:00pm on both days and costs £90, which includes two fantastic resource workbooks for use when practising PBs after the course.
