Community Works are running a consultation about how they can support people in their governance roles. They would like to hear from trustees, directors, management committee members and governors.
They would like to gather people’s views about what their support needs are as leaders of their organisation and how they can help to meet these. The survey is available on-line here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/governancesupport or a version in word is available.
The University of Sussex Students’ Union would like to ask all community and voluntary organisations to save the date for their volunteering fair on January 20th 2015.

Brighton and Hove City Council Sports Development Team are inviting all organisations interested in being involved in next year’s TAKEPART Festival of Sport and Physical Activity to join us for the TAKEPART 2015 Planning Meeting.
The Festival celebrates and promotes all the great activities that exist in Brighton & Hove that help people to lead active lifestyles. If you or your organisation provide sport, dance or physical activity sessions for people in the city we’d love to get you involved.

The PHT are launching their new Active Communities programme: 12th November.
£300,000 is available for local community groups (with an income of up to£350,000) supporting people living in the 30% most deprived areas in Sussex. Projects should encourage social interaction and be initiated designed and run by local people and grants of between £5000 and £25,000 a year are available.
Application is through an online form at www.peopleshealthtrust.org.uk and the deadline is 24 December at 1pm. You need to go to this website initially to see if you and your group are operating in one of their designated areas
SCF is able to give telephone and email advice and will also have a drop in here in Lewes on 12 December to talk through applications and ideas. Our guidelines/criteria are on our website at www.sussexgiving.org.uk
Skills Exchange is a network of professional firms, each of which has offered to provide their professional skills free of charge to voluntary and community organisations across Brighton and Hove who cannot afford to pay for these services. Support is offered for clearly defined, time-limited projects.
Members include architects, surveyors, accountants, solicitors, IT consultants and those who specialise in public relations, marketing, HR and design.
Each firm is affiliated to Skills Exchange. The Skills Exchange Board meets bi-monthly to respond to requests for help from voluntary and community organisations. If a match cannot be made immediately, effort is made to find a suitable match.
Legal advice, including Employment Law and Charity Law, Architectural advice; drawing of plans, gaining planning permission, surveying, building management, HR, Graphic Design, , Website development, PR and Marketing, and business planning.
Skills Exchange will consider your application if:
-You represent a not‐for‐profit organisation including charities, community groups and social enterprises, whose benefit is primarily within Brighton and Hove.
-You do not have the funds to pay for the services you are requesting.
-You can demonstrate the benefit to the organisation, staff, volunteers or service users.
-You are able to demonstrate that the organisation has the resources to follow advice through.
-You can nominate a contact/liaison person to ensure the project runs smoothly.
-You are happy to take part in feedback, case studies and other evaluation.

The Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund is open for applications again, offering small grants to help small, local community groups and charities across the UK and Ireland.
Now in its fourth year, the Fund will distribute five £300 awards each week, one of which will be for the applicant that attracts the most support on the Fund’s website that week.
The Fund is open for entries until 23 February 2015.
Since it was first established the Fund has supported more than 100,000 people.

There is going to be an extra and final round of ESF Community Grants funding available to groups in Brighton and Sussex.
The final round is now open and will close on Friday 21st November.
Grants up to £15,000 will be awarded to organisations that are in receipt of under £300,000 per year, and have less than 9 employees. The grant is to be used to support the most disadvantaged unemployed individuals to access further learning, build confidence and progress into employment. Projects need to be completed by the end of April 2015.
