Social media and toolkit for small charities

Allsorts have created a simple guide to digital and social media which:

  •  explores why community projects use digital social media
  •  provides an step-by-step toolkit showing you exactly how to use it
  •  presents an e-policy template so you can use it safely

They are launching the resource at LGBT Children, Young People and Families Day Conference 4th Feb 2014 where they will be running a workshop on it and giving out free copies.

At the workshop, you can also sign up for free mentoring sessions on social media (using the toolkit).

Money matters for social enterprises

Aimed at social enterprises in their early stages or those coming to the end of their funding and looking at becoming self-financing. Many social enterprises need to act like businesses if they are to become financially sustainable. Feel more confident managing finances as a business to ensure success and longevity. Suitable for those with or without experience of managing finances.

The aim of this workshop is to:

  • demystify financial jargon that may be holding you back
  • show you tools to use to evaluate the financial impact of projects and opportunities
  • show you key indicators to monitor – a financial health check
  • give you three changes to implement to become more financially sustainable

Marketing matters for social enterprises

Whether you already have an existing social enterprise, run a local charity or community group and want to generate more income from trading goods or services to make yourself less reliant on funding, this is for you.

The aim is to:

  • focus on marketing and profile raising
  • hear from successful local social enterprises and social entrepreneurs
  • learn about the Three M’s of marketing: Market, Message and Medium
  • leave with a one-page marketing plan to implement the next day

This two-hour workshop will be a mix of presentation, case studies, storytelling and group work and will end with an interactive Q&A session with a local social entrepreneur.

BME organisations invited to LGBT Health and Inclusion project meeting

The LGBT Health and Inclusion project are organising a meeting for representatives of BME organisations, and interested individuals, about creating a stronger voice for LGBT BME people in Brighton and Hove. The meeting will also focus on exploring ways to improve the inclusion of BME LGBT people in the LGBT Health Inclusion Project, and strengthening the work of BME organisations to promote inclusion for LGBT people.

All representatives of BME organisations, and individuals who are interested in taking part in the discussion, are welcome to attend.

Community First Funding DEADLINE 5th December

St.Peters and North Laines Community First grant funding is open for applications from groups providing projects and services to meet local needs and priorities within this Ward.  Funds of up to £2,500 per project are available from groups and organisations able to provide match funds in cash or kind (volunteer time can be counted).  General Details of Community First funding can be found at:

Good Food Grant information sessions

Good Food Grants is a small grants programme run by the Food Partnership that supports projects in communities in Brighton & Hove working on issues like growing, cooking, healthy eating, reducing waste and increasing access to good food. The maximum grant size is £800.

Sport England funding for specialist equipment for sports for disabled people

Sport England have £1million to spend on grants for specialist equipment to help organisations deliver sports activities for disabled people.

Not-for-profit organisations can apply for between £300 and £10,000 of Lottery funding to purchase sports equipment that will help increase the number of disabled young people (aged 14+) and adults regularly playing sport.

The deadline for applications is 2nd December 2013.
