Resource Centre AGM 2017

Thank you so much to everybody who came along to our Annual General Meeting on 25th October 2017.

The AGM was attended by our member groups, who help give the Resource Centre its unique grassroots focus and direction.

We heard about the work done by the Centre in 2016-17, including A Day in the Life of the Resource Centre: a report on all the groups that used the Centre on a single day.

Nine representatives were elected to our management committee. A big thank you to them for volunteering to support the work of the Centre over the coming year.

Session 1: How to cover your costs in a small group

So-called ‘hidden’ costs such as administration and management are essential for any voluntary and community sector organisation, but not always easy to get funded by grants and contracts. This workshop led by fundraising consultant Katie Rabone will look at how using a full cost recovery model can help to secure core costs for your organisation.

A toolkit for success will be shared during the session, to ensure that your organisation can move beyond chasing short-term project funding and look to a more sustainable and confident future.

Session 2: Are you the only paid member of staff in your group? Or is this a situation you anticipate being in in the near future?

Being the only paid member of staff in an organisation can often feel daunting; with a unique set of challenges and circumstances. This interactive session led by Kaye Duerdoth will explore some of the issues that a sole member of staff encounters along with the opportunity to hear from people who have been in this very situation. The time will then be used to share different methods for problem-solving and overcoming the challenges of being the only paid member of staff which typically relate to the following areas:

  • Delegating effectively
  • Managing volunteers
  • Staying well and avoiding burnout
  • Succession planning – ensuring sustainability
  • Balancing delivery and development
  • Managing growth
  • Working with trustees and/or committee members

PA system available to give away

THIS HAS NOW BEEN OFFERED TO BRIGHTON SOUP, WHO RUN FUNDRAISING EVENTS FOR LOCAL PROJECTS

We are giving away one of our old PA systems for free.

It is an 80W single unit system. The reason we are giving it away is that the volume control is broken, so it can no longer be hired out. However, it still works fine if you use it with an external device, such as a phone, laptop or MP3 player, because you can control the volume on the external device.

It would suit a group that needs a PA for use at community parties to simply play music through.

It will need to be collected from the Resource Centre. If you are interested please get in touch. Priority will be given to volunteer-run community groups.

Donation-based crowdfunding is a new way of raising funds and allows you to source money for a project by asking a large number of contributors to donate a small amount, and asking a small number of contributors to donate a large amount.
