Last Friday, Isha, Boudicca and Tom from Audio Active won the public vote and £448 of ticket money and donations for their “Women in Music Tech” project. A surprise secret donation on the night gave all 4 projects a separate £250 donation. So B&H Speak Out’s Thumbs Up, Free University Brighton’s Projector and Fabrica’s Textile Flow also came away with some funding as well as other support and assistance gained on the night.

The Goodall Foundation (tGF) is offering to fully fund educational or charitable projects taking place on the Barge during the 2018 school summer holidays.

Since the Barge relaunched as a non-profit community and youth hub in the summer of 2017, over 20 organisations and community groups have run activities aboard, bringing the space to life. Whether a regular yoga class or a team away day, the Barge has demonstrated its appeal and value to the Marina and the city more broadly. The Barge is an asset owned by the Marina who hope that it will continue to grow into a hub of activity, enabling local community and youth groups and other socially-oriented organisations to broaden their offer to staff and beneficiaries alike.

“Last Summer’s activities were a great success. We saw over 600 participants take part in a variety of activities and more importantly we begun to see the endless potential the creative space presents” says Sunetta Kiarie, Programmes Manager at tGF. The Foundation are helping with the day to day management of the space and hope to see more young people, families and professionals engage with the Barge this Summer.

The residency is open to charities and community organisations in Brighton and Hove and will run from July 25th until September 3^rd.

Applicants will have the option to apply for a three-week residency or the full six-weeks of the holidays. There are two ways to do this:

1. Design a programme of activity that is built on the teams, projects and infrastructure you have as part of your organisation or;
2. Curate a programme of events, delivered by your team and/or other external organisations with whom you have partnerships.

Both of these options will be fully funded. tGF anticipate up to £5,000 for three weeks or £10,000 for all six weeks. The deadline for both applications is Friday 16^th March 2018 at 5.00pm. Find more information and the full application pack at http://medium.com/@theGoodallFdn

Small grants of up to £500 are available to groups in Moulsecoomb, Bates Estate, Saunders Park, Manor Farm, Whitehawk, Craven Vale, Bristol Estate and Higher Bevendean.

The Brighton and Hove Dementia Action Alliance has funding available for organisations that want to make a positive difference to those living with dementia in the city.

The first pot is for local groups to apply to provide services that improve the health and well-being of people living with dementia. They are particularly keen to look at projects that encourage participation in physical activities and reduce people’s feelings of isolation. Each grant fund from this pot is limited to a maximum of £3000 per financial year but smaller grants (under £1000) are encouraged, particularly for new innovative and creative projects.

The second pot is for local groups to apply to help adapt their environments to assist people living with dementia to feel more comfortable accessing the wide range of services  provided in Brighton and Hove. Feedback from people living with dementia say they often struggle to navigate around spaces that the rest of us can take for granted. Have a look at this checklist which will hopefully inspire you to think about how you can make your environment more dementia friendly. Each grant from this pot is limited to a maximum of £2000 per financial year.

Applications are invited from local organisations and businesses that are committed to joining the Dementia Action Alliance and helping us achieve our core objectives namely that of Brighton and Hove being recognised as a Dementia Friendly Community, tackling the stigma associated with dementia and reducing the social isolation of people with dementia and their carers. Organisations can apply for finances from both funding streams if appropriate. Brighton Energy Cooperative Community Fund 2017 is now open for applications!

This year the fund is for £2,500, and is open for any organisation in the Brighton and Hove, East or West Sussex areas.  The aim of the fund is to support local generation of renewable electricity or implement energy efficiency measures.

The deadline is 8^th December 2017. Decisions will be made by the end of December, and the grant will be allocated by March 2018.

Brighton Open Air Theatre produce an annual charity event up at BOAT to support a local charity.

In 2016 they supported the Refugee Bus Project; in 2017 they supported Rise and Speak Out.

They are looking for a charity to support in 2018 and want to hear from you if you think your charity promotes cultural diversity, community cohesion and ready to embrace the punk aesthetic and other strong sub-cultures. They are especially interested if you work with marginalised young people.
