Waitrose Community Matters

Grants available for: Welfare organisations, community groups, schools, local divisions of national charities, local charities.
Size of grant available: £1000 shared between 3 organisations. Proportion decided by customers.
No deadlines.

Aims of Fund

To give staff and customers the opportunity to choose which causes they wish to champion in their communities.

Who can apply

Welfare organisations, community groups, schools or local divisions of national charities.

How much and what can you apply for

Each trading month, shops will have approximately £1,000 to divide between three local organisations.

Under the scheme, customers nominate organisations, with the final decision made by PartnerVoice forums (Waitrose’s local democratic bodies). Each branch will have a Community Matters Champion, who will find out about potential beneficiaries.

Customers can ask for a green token every time they shop. These can be inserted in one of three Perspex tubes – one for each organisation. At the end of the month the tokens for each organisation are weighed. Then the beneficiaries will then receive a proportion of the cash.

How to apply

Go to your local Waitrose shop and fill in a ‘Community Matters’ nomination form, or write a letter addressed to a branch, with a short blurb about your organisation/group and what the funds might be used for.

Deadlines for application

This is an ongoing scheme and there are no deadlines.
